Handwoven tape was a common household item in early America. Small tape looms were used to weave narrow bands of cloth for many purposes, including ties for crocks, wagon covers, grain sacks, garters, apron ties, petticoat ties and more. Tape can also be used today as a decorative way to tie jars or preserves, packages, lanyards and decorative straps.
In this workshop you will learn about early American tape looms, see examples of tape, learn to warp a loom, and weave a band of tape to keep.
All materials will be provided and no experience is necessary. Each participant will leave with a small pair of scissors and handwoven tape to go with them!
